Flow Table for Concrete — Workability Measurement

The Flow Table for Concrete is used to measure the consistency and workability of concrete, mortar, and grout mixes by the flow spread method as per IS 1199 Part 5 (flow table), IS 712, and BS EN 12350-5. A truncated cone mould is filled with fresh concrete, lifted, and the table is raised and dropped 15 times. The spread diameter is measured in two perpendicular directions to calculate the flow value.

JS Civil Lab Solutions supplies flow tables for concrete QC labs working with Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC), flowable grout, high-workability concrete (slump class S4/S5), and cement mortar.

Flow Table vs Slump Test

The flow table is more sensitive than the slump test for very flowable and SCC mixes where slump approaches or exceeds 200 mm (slump flow). For SCC mixes, a modified slump cone on the flow table gives the T500 (time to 500 mm spread) in addition to the final spread diameter, providing both workability and viscosity information from a single test.
