How an Autoclave Works

The autoclave generates saturated steam at elevated pressure (typically 121°C at 15 psi / 103 kPa), which penetrates materials and kills all microorganisms including bacterial spores within a defined exposure time. The standard sterilisation cycle is 121°C for 20 minutes (or 134°C for 3 minutes for fast cycles).
