Pile Integrity Tester — Low Strain Pile Testing

The Pile Integrity Tester (PIT) is used for non-destructive low-strain dynamic testing of bored, driven, and cast-in-situ piles as per ASTM D5882 and IS 14893. A hand-held hammer strikes the pile head, and an accelerometer records the stress wave reflections. The waveform is analysed to detect defects such as necking, bulging, voids, cracks, or soil inclusions within the pile shaft.

Interpretation

The velocity-time trace is reviewed for early reflections (indicating reduced cross-section) or late reflections (soil inclusions or toe). PIT results are used to select piles for further investigation by Core Drilling or High-Strain Dynamic Load Test (PDA).
