Perforated Plate Test Sieve — Coarse Aggregate Grading

Perforated Plate Test Sieves are used for particle size analysis (sieve analysis) of coarse aggregates, sub-base material, track ballast, recycled concrete aggregate, and other large granular materials as per IS 2386 Part 1, IS 460, ASTM C136, and BS 410. Unlike wire cloth sieves (used for fine materials), perforated plate sieves use punched round or square holes in a rigid steel plate, providing robust performance with coarse particles (typically 4.75 mm – 125 mm) that would damage wire mesh.

Perforated Plate vs Wire Cloth Sieves

Perforated plate sieves are mandatory for aggregate sizes above 4.75 mm per IS 460. Wire cloth sieves (ID 714, 712) are used for fine aggregate and cement fineness (below 4.75 mm). Most concrete aggregate grading tests (IS 383) use a combination of both types across the full grading range.
