Cast Iron Cylinder Mould — Concrete Compressive Strength

The Cast Iron Cylinder Mould is used for casting 150 mm diameter × 300 mm height concrete cylinder specimens for compressive strength testing as per ASTM C39, BS EN 12390-3, and IS 516. Cylinder specimens are preferred in international practice and are mandatory for projects specifying American or European concrete standards.

Cylinder vs Cube Specimens

Cylinder specimens (dia:height = 1:2) test uniaxial compressive strength without end-restraint effects. The standard conversion factor between cylinder and cube strength is approximately 0.8 (i.e., cylinder strength ≈ 80% of equivalent cube strength). Both are valid for structural concrete design but specified separately in Indian and international codes.
