An Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Tester — commonly called a UPV tester or UPV meter — is a non-destructive testing instrument that measures the speed at which ultrasonic sound pulses travel through concrete. Higher pulse velocity indicates denser, stronger, more uniform concrete; lower velocity indicates cracks, voids, honeycombing, or deterioration. UPV Tester — Transmission Modes Explained

• Direct (Opposite Faces): Transmitter on one face, receiver on the opposite face. Most accurate — used on beams, columns, and wall sections where both faces are accessible.
• Semi-Direct (Adjacent Faces): Transmitter and receiver on adjacent (90°) faces. Used when only one face is fully accessible.
• Indirect / Surface (Same Face): Both transducers on the same surface with increasing spacing. Used on slabs and when only one face is accessible. Slightly less accurate.
