Digital Pull-Off Adhesion Tester

The Digital Pull-Off Adhesion Tester measures the tensile bond strength (pull-off strength) of coatings, renders, tiles, screeds, overlays, and repair mortars to their substrate using a dolly bonded to the surface and a hydraulic or motorised loading mechanism. The test provides a direct quantitative measure of adhesion failure — whether at the coating–substrate interface, within the coating, or within the substrate — per IS 13620, BS EN ISO 4624, and ASTM D4541.

  • Capacity: 0–20 MPa (or 0–50 MPa for high-strength substrates)
  • Resolution: 0.01 MPa (digital load cell)
  • Dolly diameter: 50 mm (standard IS/BS) or 20 mm (optional)
  • Loading rate: Manual or motorised — constant rate of stress application
  • Display: Digital with peak hold and failure mode notation
  • Data output: USB for test record export

Failure Mode Classification

BS EN ISO 4624 classifies pull-off failures as: A (substrate), A/B (substrate–primer interface), B (primer), B/C (primer–topcoat interface), C (topcoat), C/D (topcoat–glue interface), D (glue). Recording failure mode is mandatory for meaningful adhesion assessment — a high pull-off value with substrate failure is more meaningful than a low value with glue failure.
