Rebound Hammer Anvil — Calibration Reference for Schmidt Hammer

The Rebound Hammer Anvil is a precision calibration reference used to verify and standardise the rebound index (R-value) of Schmidt rebound hammers (N-type and L-type) before and after each test session as per IS 13311 Part 2, BS 1881 Part 202, and ASTM C805. The anvil is a hardened steel block of known mass and hardness — when the hammer strikes it, the displayed rebound value should fall within the manufacturer-specified tolerance (typically 80 ± 2 for N-type hammer on a standard anvil).

Calibration Procedure

Place the anvil on a flat concrete floor or rigid base. Fire the hammer 5 times in the horizontal direction and discard the first reading. Average the remaining 4 readings. If the average differs from the reference value by more than ±2 units, the hammer requires factory recalibration. This check must be done at the start and end of each day’s testing per IS 13311 Part 2.
